The Original... Matt's Guide to Creating a Guide!
Hello, and this is my guide to making... a guide!
First up, here are some simple things you should think about when making a guide.
Think DR CASPER -
Detail - Add as much detail as possible.
References - Reference any sources you used at the bottom of the guide.
Catchy title - How can I alert users and make them want to read my guide?
Audience - Who am I aiming this guide at? (TORMENTED.)
Sub Headings - Make them clear and easy to read.
Pictures - Add pictures, it makes guides easier to understand!
Examples - Use examples to show what things do/the result of things
Revise - Look over your guide to make sure you've added everything you need to add, and fix up all typos.
What to and not to do in a guide:
DO NOT ask for reputation. People make short stumpy guides just for reputation. If you ask for rep in one of your guides, you'll probably see a bit of a red section in the post reputation. Don't rep farm!!!
DO NOT plagiarise. Plagiarising other guides from SM and external websites is strictly forbidden. It will almost always result in a ban.
DO NOT make a guide that is extremely long, like 5000 words. No one wants to read 5000 words of a guide.
DO NOT spam links of your guide everywhere. You'll just piss them off. One link is fine.
DO add a summary of your guide down the bottom. If someone doesn't want to read the whole guide, direct them to the simple summary.
DO use colour. Don't use too much, but it looks better.
DO make it a fair length. Between 500 and 2000 words is fine. You don't have to write an essay.
DO ask for constructive criticism. It is fine to use feedback to perfect a guide.
DO make your guide original. Do something no one has done before.
If you run out of information to use, runescape.wikia.com has some awsome articles you can read. Personally, I have written about six full sized articles there about half a year ago. Its fine to create an article using some of the information from there, but do not copy-paste and remember to reference your guide.
I hope this guide to guides has helped you make guides and give me any feedback if I have missed something

DO make your guide original. Do something no one has done before.
Aslong as your guide has much detail, it doesn't matter whether it is done before or not =] For example someone can make a guide about doing armadyl, but if another one can put much more detail in his guide which also is about armadyl, I'm sure people don't mind it that there are two armadyl guides around =]
but very good guide! =] +rep.

5000+ guide's are awesome
Other's are just shortened a lot. 1000 is like.. one page?

Re: The Original... Matt's Guide to Creating a Guide!
I once Read a solo armadyl guide, and it was awesome (Which is why I haven't made one)
Even though it was so great, it had a lot of mistakes, grammar mistakes, and no inventory pictures. But it was so well written and all
So yeah if a guide has everything you've listed it's probably great.
But if it doesn't, I think it's just up to the viewer to see if he or she can bother reading it

I've came up with the idea back when I was a public member. I just didn't get round to doing it.
