++++Ultimate Woodcutting Guide [Pictures] [Evil Trees] [Best way to 99] [Money Making][+more!]++++
Woodcutting is one of the least tedious skills to get 99 on. I have achieved 2 99s on this skill on my old accounts and I can say that honestly its extremely afkable so you can watch a movie or read a book while wcing.
Hatchets
Level 1:Iron Hatchet is the hatchet that all beginners should use. There are no requirements for it and it should be used instead of a bronze hatchet because it is faster with the same level requirements.
Level 6: Steel Hatchet should be used from level 6 onward. It is not advised that Black hatchets should be used because they have the same level 6 requirement, have the same cutting speed, and costs a lot more.
Level 21:Mithril Hatchet should be used from level 21 woodcutting onward. Switching to higher level hatchets at the first possible moment is recommended.
Level 31:Adamant Hatchet should be used from levl 31 woodcutting onward.
Level 40:Sacred Clay Hatchet is a possible reward from the Stealing Creations mini-game. It can be morphed from the proto-tool which costs 20 SC points. The sacred clay hatchet lasts for 25,000-33,419 exp depending on the type of log chopped and doubles the woodcutting experience you gain. The usefulness of this hatchet is heavily debated as the time put in to obtaining the hatchet could very well outweigh the benifts of the hatchet. I myself don't recommend this hatchet unless you are extremely pro at Stealing Creations and can get at least one Proto tool every game played.
Level 41: Rune Hatchet is the best F2P hatchet out there and is a decent alternative to the Dragon Hatchet at higher levels if one can not afford the dragon hatchet.
Level 61:Dragon Hatchet is considered the best non-degradable hatchet in game. The dragon hatchet is 10% faster than the rune hatchet. Again, if you cant afford the dragon hatchet, a rune hatchet is a decent alternative. A dragon hatchet is usually 700k-1000k in cost. I recommend using the Dragon hatchet to 99 woodcutting.
Level 61:Inferno Adze can be used as a free alternative to a dragon hatchet. The adze can also be used as a rune pickaxe. In order to wield an inferno adze, one must have 92 firemaking.
Lumber-Jack Clothing
Lumberjack clothing is a set of clothing dropped by Undead Lumberjacks in the Temple Trekking Activity (A distraction and diversion). Lumberjack Clothing gives extra experience for chopped logs/ivy when worn. The entire set gives a total of 2.5% of bonus woodcutting experience per log/ivy cut.
The set:
Lumberjack Hat: 0.4% Bonus
Lumberjack Top:0.8% Bonus
Lumberjack Legs:0.6% Bonus
Lumberjack Boots:0.2% Bonus
+0.5% set bonus
__________________________
Total=2.5% Bonus EXP
It is debatable if the Lumberjack Clothing set is truly worth it because of the nearly unnoticeable bonus exp (2.5%) and the sheer amount of time it takes to obtain the set (10 hours+). Getting 99 woodcutting may not be worth using the Lumberjack Clothing set as it only saves you 4 hours of ivy chopping. However, if you are considering on getting 200 million woodcutting experience, you may want to consider this set of clothing as it will save a considerable amount of time.
Bird Nests
Bird nests are nests that fall out of trees/ivies that you are chopping. If you have Runescape Music on, you will hear a chirping sound and a nest will appear on the ground. There will also be a red message that informs you that a bird nest has been dropped. I advise that you pick up the Bird's nest as they are worth a decent amount when ground with a pestle and mortar (7k-9k coins each). Also, nests may contain expensive seeds (such as yew and magic seeds), Bird's eggs, and rings from regular gold to diamond.
Here is the full list of possible loot from bird nests:
http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Bird%27s_nest
Strung Rabbit Foot
A strung Rabbit foot requires 24 hunter to be worn. This item increases the chance that bird nests will drop. I highly advise that this item is worn at all times while woodcutting especially while you are chopping ivy as nests are the only source of money for ivies. It never hurts to have some extra money ehh?
Beaver
Beavers are summoning familiars that can be summoned at 33 summoning. with the Beaver Pouch. Beavers give an invisible 2 woodcutting level boost (Stacks with lumberjack and axeman's folly) and forages for logs (normal up to yew). They can hold 30 logs in their inventory. I recommend always having a beaver out while woodcutting because the 2 levels boosted comes in handy especially while chopping yews, magics , and ivies. Also, the logs bring in a slow but steady profit which is always a good thing. A beaver lasts for 27 minutes per pouch.
Axeman's folly
Axeman's folly is an alcoholic drink that temporarily boosts your woodcutting level by 1. It comes in a glass form (900 coins) and a keg (4 doses) (9,000 coins). Axeman's folly may be useful if you want 99 woodcutting quicker but eh I don't see any practical use for it.
Recommended way to 99
Level 1-15:Cut Normal Trees
EXP:10-15k per hour
Locations I recommend are outside the Grand Exchange and in Draynor village near the bank.
Level 15-30: Cut oak trees
EXP:20-40k per hour
Locations:
-Outside the Grand Exchange 3 trees
-Just Outside Draynor Village
-Falador
Level 30-68:Willow trees
EXP:30K-50K per hour
Locations:
-Draynor Village (Usually crowded but closest to bank)
-Catherby (Rarely anyone there , a bit longer of a walk)
-Near Port Sarim (No one there but must drop logs as the location is nowhere near a bank)
Level 45-68:Maple Trees
exp:30-40K per hour
Locations:
-Seers Village
-Near Sinclair's Mansion (Must powerchop)
Level 68-99:Ivy
Note:Chopping Ivy is the fastest and least tedious way to obtain 99 woodcutting. Ivies don't give anything but the occasional bird nest so their is no banking required. One can easily get 70k-90k exp per hour chopping ivies. The downside is that ivies aren't good for money making as they only drop nests occasionally. To maximize your potential profit, wear a strung rabbit's foot at all times as they increase the chance of bird nest drops.
EXP:70k-90k per hour
Locations:
-Castle Wars
-Falador North
-Falador South
-Near Grand Exchange (2 spots on opposing sides of Varrock Castle)
-Taverly
Money Making with Woodcutting
Level 60: Yew Trees
EXP:30K per hour
Money per hour:80K-100k
At level 60 woodcutting, one can cut yew trees to obtain yew logs which are worth 468 coins each. Chopping yew trees is slow at lower levels and I only recommend to cut them at level 80 woodcutting or higher to obtain yew logs at a decent rate. This is not a bad way to make money but it is repetitive at times and yew trees are often crowded with bots.
Locations:
-Grand Exchange
-Catherby
-Seers Village Church
-Tree Gnome Stronghold Bank
-Near Eagles peak (power chop here only)
Level 75: Magic Trees
EXP:25k per hour
Money per hour:130k-150k
At level 75 woodcutting, one can cut magic trees for magic logs which are worth aprox. 1,400 coins each. However, just like yew logs, at lower levels magic trees are extremely slow to cut. I recommend to start cutting these at 90 woodcutting to produce a decent amount of money per hour. Magic trees are often crowded with bots. The only location not filled with bots is the Mage Training Arena and the closest bank there is the Duel Arena. Another good spot is the Varrock Sewer Resource Dungeon (6 trees) but its far away from a bank so use your judgement.
Location:
-Sorcerer's Tower
-Range Tower
-Tree Gnome Stronghold (scattered in stronghold)
-Mage Training Arena
-Varrock Sewer Dungeon
Evil Trees
Evil trees is a distraction and diversion. Evil trees spawn in one of many possible locations. Speak to a spirit tree to see if there is an evil tree that has grown on the world you are in. Spirit Trees have an option to teleport you to the Evil Tree (if there is one). Evil trees begin at 100% health and you must hack at it until it has 0% life left. This is much faster when there are multiple people chopping the evil tree. On a regular basis, the evil tree will spawn roots that will prevent you from chopping the evil tree. In order to continue chopping the evil tree, you must chop the roots first. The roots can be used to make fires around the evil tree to kill the tree faster (making fires is good exp too ) .
Trees
Normal Evil Tree : Level 1
Evil Oak Tree: Level 15
Willow Evil Tree: Level 30
Maple Evil Tree: Level 45
Yew Evil Tree : Level 60
Magic Evil Tree: Level 75
Elder Evil Tree: Level 85
Rewards
1.Magic log teleporting : After you successfully kill an evil tree, you will gain the temporary ability to transport excess logs to your bank. The duration depends on the type of evil tree you cut.
2.Extra Items:
-Noted logs of the same type as the tree*. Elder trees offer noted Yew, Magic, Teak or Mahogany logs.
-Coins
-Tree Seed or Bird's nest
-1-10 Morchella mushroom spores
-1-11 Fellstalk seeds
-Level 1 Clue scroll
-Key halves
-Spin tickets
