Welcome

Smithing can be seen as quite an expensive skill, and is rather time consuming. With some help I feel like smithing doesn't have to be such a pain!

This guide will show you the quick yet expensive ways and the ways in which you can conserve a bit of that cash.

Your First Few Levels 1-29

The most popular method in 07 to start smithing (and most definitely the cheapest) has to be doing the F2P quest: The Knight's Sword

This simple quest requires you to have 10 mining, which shouldn't take long and you don't need any smithing levels to start.
The quest rewards you with : 12,725 Smithing EXP

This will take you straight to 29 smithing

Other quests that give smithing xp in 07 :
1,000 - Recipe for Disaster
2,257 - Heroes Quest
2,500 - The Giant Dwarf
5,000 - Between a Rock...
5,000 - Elemental Workshop I
6,500 - Devious Minds
7,000 - Cabin Fever
7,500 - Elemental Workshop II

But I will not take these in to account for the rest of the guide.

Starting to smith! 29-35

Now that you are 29 smithing, you can start on some iron items. Whats the best items to make?

Lets take money in to consideration first.

Rough price of iron bars on Zybez right now : 240gp each
Rough price of iron knives on Zybez right now : 52gp each

You make 5 iron knives per 1 iron bar resulting in a 20gp PROFIT per bar!
And per bar you will get 25 smithing xp. Resulting in a 0.8gp profit per xp, which in smithing is not to be sniffed at!

Although this method isn't the quickest, it does work out as one of the best smithing options in my opinion.

I recommend smithing Iron Knives until 35 smithing, this will mean making 1,940 iron knives with 388 bars.
This will cost approximately 93,120 coins initially but after selling the knives you get a return of 100,880 coins.

After smithing your 388 bars you should be on 22,425 xp

I have lots of time to spare, and im looking for money! (35-99)

Well, I definitely DO NOT recommend this guide going all the way to 99 unless you are insane.
This method will require the completion of the "Dwarf Cannon" quest and possession of a cannonball mould.

Cannonballs have to be made by using a steel bar at a furnace with a cannonball mould in your inventory, the best places for this are:

Neitiznot:
07 Smithing Guide - Woey Edition. 2x2KH

or

Port Phasmatys:
07 Smithing Guide - Woey Edition. 2x2KH

Again, lest take money in to account here.

Approximate steel bar value : 750gp each
Approximate cannonball value : 250gp each (4 cannonballs are made per 1 steel bar)

This results in a 250gp profit PER steel bar! Meaning that if you were to smith all 508,282 steel bars needed for 35-99 a massive 127,070,500 gp profit would be made! (this is also a great short-term money maker)

It takes 6 seconds to make 1 steel bar in to 4 cannonballs and a max of 27 steel bars can be in your inventory (1 space being taken up by the mould) meaning a full inventory takes 162 seconds (2 minutes 42 seconds). So lets assume a trip from the bank and then smelting the bars and re-banking takes 3 minutes, so 20 trips per hour. This method actually makes

135k gold per hour
and
13,824 xp per hour.

Meaning if you were to use this method all the way to 99 it would take approximately 942 hours ( 40 days of no-lifing)

I've got tonnes of cash and i'm not afraid to use it! (35-99)

This method is the method used by most people while achieving their 99 in smithing.

I will be using the same prices for iron and steel bars for this breakdown. Heres a recap

Iron Bars: 240ea
Steel Bars: 750ea

Others

Mith Bars: 1,600ea
Addy Bars: 4,000ea
Rune Bars (not used for levelling): 10,500ea

The method is simply smithing platebodies.
Platebodies can then be alched to make some money back.
The Xp for each of these platebodies are:

Iron: 125
Steel: 187.5
Mith: 250
Addy: 312.5

Platebodies require 5 bars per 1 platebody.

The closest anvil to a bank is

Varrock:
07 Smithing Guide - Woey Edition. 2x2Lf

or

Yanille
07 Smithing Guide - Woey Edition. 2x2QV

The order in which they should be smithed:

33-48: 485 Iron Platebodies (2425 bars - 582,000 gp)
48-68: 2,784 Steel Platebodies (13,920 bars - 10,440,000 gp)
68-88: 12,365 Mith Platebodies (61,825 bars - 98,920,000 gp)
88-99: 29,346 Addy Platebodies (146,730 bars - 586,920,000)

Meaning the total cost from 33-99 smithing using the platebodies method is ONLY 696,862,000 coins!

Doing that in 2007scape doesn't make any sense but it IS the fastest way to 99 smithing.

Alternative Methods

Smelting Gold ore

Requirements: Family Crest
Goldsmith Gauntlest (from Family Crest)
40 Smithing

Smelting Gold Ore with the gloves on yeilds 56.2 xp per bar.
This means that from a full inventory of gold ore you can get 1573.6 xp.
From 40-99 you will need to smith 163,174 gold bars.

Ok guys. Thats all I can rack my brains for right now. I wrote this guide myself as a spur of the moment thing after returning to Smokinelite.

If you have any questions, let me know! (sorry if I missed anything)
