Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
Do you play a musical instrument? If so, what do you play? Can you play multiple instruments? Do you play in a band, orchestra, or ensemble?
I play Euphonium mainly (idk if you know what that is lol) and I play Baritone, Tuba, Trumpet, Cornet, and the Triangle. #Triangle$W@G

Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
I play clarinet, flute, piano, and drums, all self taught. Haven't thought about joining a band yet, plus i don't have much time to spare to a band (although i spen nearly 10hrs either on rs, sleeping or chilling with friends everyday).

Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
I'm an avid guitar player, have played for a good 7-8 years. I also know how to play Cello (as well as violin/viola/bass) but I don't play that very often anymore. Used to kinda be in a band, didn't quite work out, so I just play guitar as a hobby now.

Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
Guitar - 10 years
Bass - 6 Years
Cello - 7 Years
Piano - Like 1 year, but I don't really play it, I just dabble
I've been a big musician for as long as I can remember. My Dad has been playing guitar most of his life and he passed it on to me. I started guitar at 6 years old or so and have loved it ever since. Bass I picked up on after seeing my Dad's band bassist play it. I picked up Cello in school and have zero regrets. Nothing better than getting to sit and play an instrument! Piano, I wish I was better at. I love piano music, but the whole two hands thing is kinda holding me back. Eventually I'll grow a pair and take lessons, but I'm more of the "Learn as you go" type of person. I love this thread by the way! Everyone in SM who knows me knows how much I love to talk about my instruments

Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
I'm glad you like music as much as I do Jewlian I picked it up in this order:
Cornet/Trumpet: 8-9 years ago
Baritone/Euphonium: 7 years ago
Tuba: 6 years ago
I've tried piano like you have, but the 2 hands thing is hard and I don't like it that much :/

Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
Start practicing with each hand seperately, then when u know them both by heart without looking at the piano, start trying to play both simultaneously at a VERY slow pace, and eventually it'll become natural. It's how i learned. Took me 1 week to learn my 1st song, bruno mars grenade. After you get around 5-7 songs down this way you'll be able to start out practicing them both simoultaneosly when learning new songs.Froggie wrote:I'm glad you like music as much as I do Jewlian :)I picked it up in this order:

Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
I've marched just about every instrument in a Marching Band setting you can think of.
And I also play Bass (not guitar). But I only learned how so I could play Apocalyptica music. XD
- Spoiler:
- However, I march Sousa in a professional setting. I'm a Tuba Major.

Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
I used to play the Tuba, played for 1-2 years then stopped because at that time the Tuba's weight on me was too much for my little puny body to handle. Didn't had the stand to rest the Tuba on .-.

Thanks! I'll have to try that! Too bad I don't have a piano at home to practice on :/Gintoki wrote:Start practicing with each hand seperately, then when u know them both by heart without looking at the piano, start trying to play both simultaneously at a VERY slow pace, and eventually it'll become natural. Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
I'm in Marching Band too, but I hate it! I really like the music, but I hate marching, so I guess that's why I really like Pep Band and playing in the bleachers. Our High School marching band is ranked almost as good as some professional marching bands We have played at Disney World multiple times, we got invited to a multi-national marching band competition in Europe, we played in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Ireland, and we played in the London New Year's Parade. All of this, not to TOOT MY OWN HORN (I know I'm a noob for that) is great, but I still don't like marching loll3reakd0wn wrote:I've marched just about every instrument in a Marching Band setting you can think of.

Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
French Horn. I play concert band, and I made a state band that's pretty hard to make. I could do marching band if I wanted to, but I feel its alot of work that I think would take up too much of my life.
Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
Yeah we have IMEA/ILMEA in Illinois which is our state band. I will most likely be trying out this year.

Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
I haven't been committed to full on learning how to play an instrument but I sometimes play the following instruments at a basic casual level, nothing professional .
Guitar
Ukulele
Pan Flute
Recorder
Cajón
Keyboard
I would like to learn how to play the banjo, accordian or the trumpet .

Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
Froggie, I feel play should be defined... I have no formal training but I can play music on trumpet, piano, guitar, trapset, harmonica, theremin, and my favorite the kazoo.

Re: Do You Play A Musical Instrument?
On and off guitar for the last six years.
Used to be really good at acoustic when I just started out, then I bought an electric and my form got really sloppy (way easier to hide mistakes on an electric), but I just started getting back into acoustic again over the last year and am trying to pick up where I left off.
Been learning a bunch of NMH songs on it this summer
