1. Quick Overview
- Spoiler:
This hive is an off-spin of the 'main' Kalphite hive. Several different types of Kalphites (including 2 magic attacking types) reside here. They are higher leveled and have better drops that the 'main' hive. In this hive resides the Kalphite King as well as the Exiled Kalphite Queen! However, it is not these bosses towards which this guide is aimed. We are here to look at the money-making benefits of the other minions within the hive. This involved gathering damaged chitin and smithing them into chitin scraps - The material used to repair drygore weapons! You can make between 165,000 gp - 313,000 gp per trip w/ no beast of burden(*with the price of chitin scraps at 280*)!
2. Level Requirements & Suggestions
- Spoiler:
Required:
60+ Smithing (The higher over 60, the greater the profits!)
Ability to defeat creatures with combat levels of 140
Suggested:
65+ Mage
65+ Defense - Not necessary due to safe-spots
52+ Summoning - For Decent BoB
3. Suggested Gear & Inventory
- Spoiler:
Always wield the best weapon and equipment possible:
- Option for Mage & Defense < 75:
This is what I used!
*You will be using a Safe-Spot to fight these monsters*
Full Batwing
Mystic Air Staff -- Cast strongest air spell
Amulet of Magic OR Amulet of Magic (t)
Cape of your choice
2 Lobsters -- Just in case
Best BoB pouch -- to carry more loot back to bank
- Option for Mage & Defense 75/77+:
*This is the setup that I currently use*
Robes of Subjugation -- Or best mage robes of your choice
Staff or Armadyl OR staff of light OR your choice -- cast strongest air spell or barrage
Amulet of Magic (t)
Cape of your choice
3 Sharks -- just in case
Best BoB pouch -- to carry more loot back to bank
4. How to get There
- Spoiler:
*I have never taken more than one hit from the desert heat -- Waterskins are a waste of inventory space*
Path 1 - Fastest Path - Blue Trail
*Must have completed Desert Treasure Quest to activate lodestone*
-Teleport to desert loadstone
-Run south to bottom of the pyramid
-Run south-east until you see the '!'
Path 2 - Slower Path - Red Trail
*Magic carpet costs 200 OR 1,000 to travel to pollnivneach*
-Teleport to Al-Kharid lodestone
-Run south through shanty pass
-Take magic carpet to north Pollnivneach
-Run south along river until you reach the '!'
*Never cross the river/bridge*
Enter the hive and you have arrived!
5. Monsters Within the Hive
- Main Target -- Kalphite Guardians:
Combat Level = 140
Attack Style = Melee
Aggressive = Yes
XP / kill = 694 combat & 229 constitution
Weakness = Water Spells -- Any magic spell works well (even air)
- Secondary Target -- Kalphite Soldiers:
Combat Level = 120
Attack Style = Melee
Aggressive = Yes
XP / kill = 404 combat & 133 constitution
Weakness = Water Spells -- Any magic spells work well (even air)
- Low Levels Avoid These -- Kalphite Marauders:
Combat Level = 140
Attack Style = Magic
Aggressive = Yes
XP / kill = 694 combat & 229 constitution
Weakness = Arrows -- Any magic spells work well (even air)
- Low Levels Avoid These -- Kalphite Paragon:
Combat Level = 120
Attack Style = Mage
Aggressive = Yes
XP / kill = 404 combat & 133 constitution
Weakness = Arrows -- Any magic spells work well (even air)
- Completely Ignore These -- Kalphite Worker:
*These do NOT drop the item we are looking for*
Workers are much smaller than the others, so easy to pick out & ignore.
Combat Level = 108
Attack Style = Melee
Aggressive = No
XP / kill = 302 combat & 100 constitution
Weakness = Water Spells -- Any magic spells work well (even air)
6. Where's the Money?
- Spoiler:
Step 1:
Go to Exiled Kalphite Hive
Step 2:
Kill These Monsters:
Guardians, Marauders, Paragons, and Soldiers -- Ignore the Workers
If you need to safe-spot these creatures, please open spoiler below:
- Spoiler:
Step 3:
Pick up Damaged Chitin (pictured below) -- 100% drops
These monsters also drop loot listed below:
- Other Loot:
Rune items
Variety of Herbs
Variety of Seeds
Nature Runes
Earth Runes
Death Runes
Law Runes
Blood Runes
200-1,000 coins
Items from the rare drop table
Step 4:
With full inventory (and optional BoB), teleport to bank and deposit.
Step 5:
Repeat steps 1-4 until you get tired of it.
Step 6:
Go to West Varrock Bank & use Damged Chitin on an anvil - Each scrap provides 10 smithing xp
You will receive Chitin Scraps (pictured below)
- Chitin Scraps Explained:
Chitin Scraps are used to repair drygore weapons -- This means they have a high demand
How Many Scraps Will I Get?
This depends on your smithing level -- Below is a step-by-step calculation to find out:
1) (Your Smithing Level) - (60) = (X)
2) (X) * (.5) = (Y)
3) (Y) + 21 = Scraps received per chitin!
How Much Money Will I Make?
****DISCLAIMER**** -- Prices vary -- This guide assumes the price of scraps are 280 ea!!!****
This also depends on your smithing level!
It also depends on how quickly you can fill your inventory!
Some examples are listed below:
Ex 1: Smithing Level of 60 = 21 scraps per chitin = 588 scraps per trip = 164,640 gp per trip
Ex 2: Smithing Level of 99 = 40 scraps per chitin= 1,120 scraps per trip = 313,600 gp per trip
^The above examples are assuming you take 28 damaged chitin from the hive w/ NO BoB^
7. Tips & Suggestions
- Spoiler:
Always bring the best armor, weapons and spells you can!
Don't be afraid to utilize safe-spot
You can half AFK from safe-spots
Use a BoB to maximize profits!
Buy 1 scrap at max price and sell the rest at the price it buys for! -- Similar to flipping -- Stretches profits
If price of Chitin Scraps falls below 280, try holding them until they rebound
Any questions/suggestions you have can be posted below or PM'ed to me -- I'd love the feedback!

Another fast way there is the 3rd option on the pharoh's sceptre which tele's you to the top of the pyramid just north of the hive. These don't req a quest and can be bought charged on the ge.
The 2 lots of spoilers inside spoilers are not needed at all. This is a minor organizational thing that hasn't been overly done, but it doesn't add anything to the flow or organization of the guide either.
The most vital piece of info missing is how long each trip can take. Everyone wants to know how much they can make/hour in every money making guide so some sort of estimate is needed. One for the low gear set up and one for the high would give people a range with which they can judge it depending on their levels and setup.
Other than that it is a pretty informative guide, clearly explained and nicely laid out.
