Why is the economy crashing?

After the RS3 Update yesterday, it seems the whole economy is on a downturn. Any idea why or is it because most people are drawn to the new storyline that it substantially affects the demand/supply equilibrum of the economy? Particularly high level armour/commodities.

PANIC. Pure and simple. Every time there is drastic change to anything (this time only gfx and interfaces really) ppl panic sell their expensive items thinking that something better will come along or that they will need the cash to skill etc. It is purely a knee jerk reaction to change which has happened before, but as there are less players it makes more drastic changes due to a lower population buying things as they drop. In the end it's panic and things will bounce backish very quickly.

Well, there was a huge inability to actually merchant yesterday, where players were not able to actually enter prices.

In a situation where people have no control, they usually choose the "safe" route and dump.

Pretty sure that is what happened to the markets.

People just got scared with the whole new interface system (which really has 0 effect on the game) and sold everything.
Prices have been going wild, giving some very high margin flips. Prices have already been getting back to what they were before the update though

Partyhats and Drygores actually held up perfectly fine and didn't crash, but slightly rose.

My eye was specifically on the crash of ascension crossbows as within about an hour they had crashed from 305 (already down ~10M from their average ~315M) to 285M, but by early morning were back up to 296M. At last check a few hours ago they had crashed back down to 275M so definitely one of many high level items to keep a close eye on for some risky, but easy profits.

only when it has become obsolete and something is there to replace it (like whips or d bow for example)


OT: i noticed some of the higher wealth items get back to where they used to be, divines hit a low of ~111m yesterday and are already back to ~117m

Got some pretty sweet margins though
