Treasure Trail Items

Treasure Trail items (TT) often make some of the greatest overnight/inactive flips, providing great margins for those who are patient and understand the market. One major factor which makes TT items as great a flip as they are is the volume – these items are brought into the game fairly rarely compared to other items, the ONLY way they are generated is by players completing Treasure Trails and receiving the items as rewards. This means that compared to many other pieces of equipment in the game, the supply of TT items is really low, and we can use this to our advantage when flipping them.

Imagine this, a regular Runescape player completes a Treasure Trail and receives a Black Dragon Mask as a rare reward, they would be ecstatic! 9 times out of 10 this player will instantly throw this item into the GE for an instant sell so they can get their hands on the money right away, they often do not think to check the current prices on the item. Now, due to this aforementioned low volume, these items are not being traded a whole lot at all, and this can be seen by looking at a graph of the item. If it is “STEPPED” as it is in the case of the Black Dragon Mask (Shown Below) then we know that the item is not traded regularly enough for the price to be updated regularly on GE graphs. Essentially, since this item is not being traded often, you’re offer is more likely to be the highest standing offer on that item which means it is very possible to pick up this item that the player has dumped into the GE at a really low price, bargain!

Now how about this, picture a rich Runescape player who wants to purchase some Dragon Masks or even another Treasure Trail item such as a Fury Ornament Kit to complete their outfit and show off their wealth. They may very well try and instantly buy the item they need as they have plenty of money to spend and do not care much for taking time to check prices. This is the ideal audience you might wish to sell to as due to the low volume your sell offer is likely to be the one which will be filled. This allows for incredible margins on these items overnight as with some patience you will be able make some good deals due to the unique market of these items.

Since most TT items have a limit of 2 and most are not covered by pricing friends chats, people rarely test prices but as a place to start flipping them you should check for all EXCEPT third age. Third age gear has super low volumes and there are a number of merchants out there that are patient enough to leave extreme offers in the GE for months, waiting for someone to PC them and get caught at a price extremely difficult to reproduce. For third age items I suggest you read the guide written by Google http://www.smokinelite.com/t66655-google-s-third-age-flipping-guide-everything-you-need-to-know

As mentioned earlier the best place to start is with a PC, then you should always try to buy a few limits at a time. Leaving your buy offer in overnight or even for 2 days is the best way to make the most from the PC since they are much slower in changing their prices than most other items. As you get to know the sort of margins you usually get for an item you can then buy one high (like a PC) to get your selling price, sell it at or just under that price so you don't lose money on your PC and you can then take the usual margin off that price to find your buying price.

A key piece of advice with these items is to experiment with setting your own margins – start off with margins you are comfortable with, and if those flips are successful try stretching both the buy and sell prices to maximize your profits. Although there may be a level of risk involved it is fairly minimal, and the rewards are well worth it!

As you can see some very nice profits can be made from very small investments by those who are patient enough to work with these items. This example above took a little over 2 days to flip and made an amazing 7m profit from only 2m invested. Using the same margins a 2nd attempt was made, shown below. This time it took 3 days to buy and another to sell, which goes to show you how slow margins can take to change on items that have very low volume.
