If you know the indicators to buy you can minimise the risk. Especially if you also pricecheck the items you are investing into often, you are less likely to miss out on the peak.
And even if something goes wrong, you can usually sell the item for the price you bought at or make a really small loss.

Also, even if you do occasionally take a loss, the profits from other times will have far outweighed it. If you're doing it correctly anyways
