RuneScape 99 Firemaking Guide

≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ 256cc6f557f96155a2f878c6adc3623d

1) Introduction to Firemaking
Firemaking is one of the easiest skills to level to 99, if not the easiest. At the moment, at only level 15 to get onto the highscores, this may be your ticket to that dream 99. This skill allows you to complete a few high level quests such as Recipe for Disaster and the infamous; Desert Treasure. Along with the skill being quest requirements, you can also light loads of cool things such as coloured firecrackers, sapphire lanterns, and pyre ships. Firemaking was the primary source used to help cook your food, but has been outdated and rarely used due to many ranges around RuneScape. Without further ado, let's get onto the guide.

NOTE: This is a very text heavy guide, if you only wish to read the training methods, use CTRL+F and search for either 'F2P Firemaking Guide' or 'P2P Firemaking Guide'.

2) Equipment + Tools
The first part of this in-depth guide, we will be looking at the equipment and tools related to firemaking. Keep in mind that some items require a certain level requirement and some don't.

≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ 590Tinderbox ≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ 590
The most essential tool used in firemaking. Without it, no fire can be made. This may be added to your tool belt at any time to save an inventory space.

≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Dwarven_army_axe Dwarven Army Axe ≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Dwarven_army_axe
Don't underestimate this weapon! It has the function of a tinderbox, along with many other tools, built into one. The only two drawbacks about this weapon, is that it only lights regular and oak logs, and can only be wielded while being a member.

≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Ring_of_fire Ring of Fire ≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Ring_of_fire
This piece of equipment requires the completion of the quest, All Fired Up, completing the minigame, All Fired Up with 6 beacons AND having a firemaking level of 62. The Ring of Fire alone gives a 2% boost to the experience gained from burning any log, but with the Flame Gloves this raises to 5%.

≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Flame_gloves Flame Gloves ≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Flame_gloves
Just like the Ring of Fire, this item has some requirements to wield. The completion of the All Fired Up Quest, the All Fired Up minigame (with 10 beacons lit), and a firemaking level of 79. Alone, the Flame Gloves gives only a boost of 2% but with the Ring of Fire, you get a hefty boost of 5% experience gained from burning any log.

≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Inferno_adze Inferno Adze ≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Inferno_adze
The Inferno Adze, the last piece to the puzzle, in a sense. While this item doesn't give any experience boost whilst burning logs, this item burns any log you cut (1/4 chance). The Adze requires a firemaking level of 92. It functions as a Dragon Hatchet and Rune Pickaxe.

≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Brawling_gloves_%28fm%29 Firemaking Brawling Gloves ≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Brawling_gloves_%28fm%29
If you already have a pair of these, consider yourself lucky. These gloves give you a 400% boost in experience whilst training Firemaking in the wilderness and a 50% boost whilst training outside the wilderness. These gloves also stack with the Ring of Fire and the (Master) Penance Horn. The gloves only lasts for 1.2K uses (with any logs). They are very rare drops from Revenants.

≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Penance_horn (Master) Penance Horn ≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Penance_horn
The (Master) Penance Horn is obtained from the Barbarian Assault Minigame. The regular version of the horn gives a total of 3.5M Firemaking experience (provided your horn is fully charged), while the master penance horn lasts for ~3.7M Firemaking experience. Both horns stack with the Ring of Fire and Flame Gloves OR the Firemaking Brawling Gloves.

≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Pendant_of_Firemaking (Prized) Pendant of Firemaking ≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Prized_pendant_of_Firemaking
These two pendants are received from the Squeal of Fortune. The regular version provides a 1.5x boost to the experience gained from burning logs, while the upgraded version provides a 2x experience boost. Both may be recharged.

≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Firemaking_Ring Firemaking Ring ≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ Firemaking_Ring
The Firemaking Ring is obtained from your clan citadel. It gives a 150% experience boost and lasts for a certain amount of experience, determined by your firemaking level and the level of your firemaking plot in the citadel. To obtain this ring, you need to cap a certain amount (determined by your clan citadel level) and charge your ring at the firemaking plot.

3) Types of Logs
The types of logs you can light varies from level to level. At level 1 firemaking, you can light only normal logs, but at 75 firemaking, you are able to light magic logs and everything that comes before! Below are two charts that show which logs you can light and at what level you can light them, as well as the experience gained from each log.

Normal Logs

≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ 931e2ab1213e2aa19c5336e65384601e

Pyre Logs
Pyre Logs are special types of logs that requires an item called the 'Sacred Oil'. This oil is ONLY obtainable during and after the Shades of Mort'ton quest. Keep in mind that this is Members ONLY.

≈°≈° In-Depth FireMaking Guide °≈°≈ B6e1edccbbe4ee42815e934978354a6e

NOTE: The logs you need to apply the oil to, is the first part in the log name. Ex. Willow Pyre Logs means that you need to apply the oil to Willow Logs.

4) Miscellaneous Lit Items
I've decided to make this section to show which other items, besides logs, give you experience when lit. These don't necessarily mean that they give a load of experience.

Balloons (Transport System)
The hot air balloons transport system in RuneScape is one of many ways to travel around. Below, you will find a table outlining the level and amount of logs required to use every balloon possible. Keep in mind you need to finish the Enlightened Journey quest to even have access to one balloon. Lastly the amount of logs outlined below is only for first time use, every use after that only requires one log.

5) Activities + Minigames
Below, you will find a bunch of activities and minigames that are related to firemaking, directly and indirectly. Also, there will be a brief description on how it relates to the skill.

Barbarian Firemaking
Barbarian Firemaking is a very unique take in creating firemaking and training skills in general. In order to start, you need a firemaking level of 35 and talk with the trainer, Otto Godblessed. I won't go into depth on how to do all this, you may find a guide about this on our forums or you can Google it. By the end of your training, you will be able to light fires with just about any bow (Crystal Bows, Dark Bows and Ogre Bows excluded). This is a cool way to firemake, but it isn't that popular compared to the traditional methods explained later on in the guide.

The second cool part to Barbarian Firemaking, is that you get to light Pyre Ships (different from Pyre Logs). Lighting Pyre ships require a firemaking and crafting levels of 11 and completion of the firemaking portion of your Barbarian training. Lighting these ships are dangerous and you could get killed but you can receive a Dragon Full Helm in the end!

Barbarian Assault
In the minigame Barbarian Assault, you don't directly train your firemaking. Instead, you charge up your regular or master penance horns in order to gain double experience whilst training.

Blast Furnace
Not a well known and played minigame, but this minigame does in fact need a firemaking level requirement which is 30.

Evil Tree
The Evil Tree DnD is a really fun minigame that requires you to cut down an evil tree in the area. There are different types of evil trees requiring different levels as you progress up. The minimum firemaking level that you would need is 1 and the maximum, 85. This DnD also requires woodcutting and farming levels as you progress up trees.

Phoenix Lair
This DnD is a very unique one which requires several skills across the board. In order to play this DnD you need a minimum of 55 firemaking which is the level requirement for the quest 'In Pyre Need', the prerequisite for this DnD. After fighting the phoenix at the end, you will ignite the pyre that the phoenix crawls to, and you will get experience for doing so.

Trouble Brewing
Trouble Brewing is a minigame that isn't played much. There isn't much to say about this, but the minigame itself doesn't require a firemaking level requirement. Instead, the rewards that you get from this minigame gives you experience in some skills which includes firemaking. It isn't the most efficient way of training.

All Fired Up
All Fired Up is the best minigame to play as a firemaker. As rewards for lighting a certain amount of beacons you get the Ring of Fire, the Flame Gloves and the Inferno Adze. The first two items are explained further up in this guide. Keep in mind that this minigame is dangerous and you WILL lose ALL your items if you die due to the amount of beacons located in the wilderness.

6) Training Guide
Below, you will find guides on how to train your firemaking levels. They may not be the most money saving way, but it is the best ways possible. Keep in mind that the methods below only covers firemaking in a bonfire. Bonfires are made when one person lights a log in a spot (most efficient is around the GE Bankers) and other players around will 'Add logs' to that lit fire. Firemaking with a bonfire by yourself gives you bonus experience of 2% and firemaking with a group of 5 (including yourself) gives a boost of 5% in experience. This is the recommended method of firemaking as it gives the most experience.

F2P Training Guide
This section of the guide will cover training as a Free to Play character. As a Free to Play character, you will be limited to the types of logs you can light. At this point in the game you will only be able to light Regular Logs. You may purchase these from the Grand Exchange, from other players, or cut them yourself.

Levels 1-15
At level 1, you are only able to burn regular logs. Doing so provides you with 50 experience per log. It will take you 49 regular logs to level from 1 to 15 firemaking.

Levels 15-30
When you reach level 15, you will be able to light oak logs. Adding these logs to a bonfire gives you 85 experience per log. It takes 129 oak logs to level from 15 to 30 firemaking.

Levels 30-45(60/99)
Willow logs use to be the fastest, most cost effective way to level all the way to 99. With the introduction to maple logs in F2P, this method became less popular. At this point, you have 3 options to choose from. The first option would be lighting willow logs from level 30 to 45, which gives 105 experience per log and takes 459 logs to level. This method would in the end, lead you to the most expensive and fastest methods of training, if you are fine with this, then choose this method.

Your second option, would be to light willow logs from level 30 to 60, which gives 105 experience per log and takes 2,480 logs to level. Choosing this method will skip over maple logs and jump you straight to yew logs. This option is less common than the first.

Your last option, would be lighting willow logs from level 30 all the way to level 99. This is one of the longest methods of firemaking in the game. If you want to save a lot of money, this is the way to go. At 105 experience per log, it will take 124,011 willow logs to get to 99.

Levels 45-60(99)
Maples is the fastest, most cost effective method to level 99. You have 2 options at this point. Your first option would be lighting maple logs from level 45 to level 60, giving you 135 experience per log and would take 1,573 logs to get level 60.

The second option would be lighting maples from level 45 to 75, skipping over yew logs and going straight for the 99. At 135 experience per log, you will be looking at lighting 96,096 maple logs until 99.

Levels 60-99
At this point, you will be at the last stage in leveling. The only method available would be yew logs all the way until 99. Lighting yew logs gives 260 experience per log and will take 49,080 logs to get 99.

Congratulations! You are now level 99 firemaking!

P2P Training Guide
Not much changes in the F2P guide, to apply it to the P2P guide. You get some more logs here and there, which in the end results is more money lost.

Levels 1-15
As a member, you have access to an additional type of log at level 1, which is the achey log. It gives the same amount of experience as a regular log, but is not used as often. At 50 experience per log, it will take you 49 logs to get level 15.

Levels 15-30
At level 15, the method remains the same with no additional log available to members at this point. At 85 experience per log, it will take 129 oak logs to get level 30 firemaking.

Levels 30-45(58/60/99)
This is where the fun begins. At this point you are presented with 4 options, rather than 3 as in the F2P guide. The first method would be lighting willow logs from level 30 to 45. Doing so grants you 105 experience per log and will take 459 logs to get level 45.

Your second option would be lighting willow logs until level 58, which grants you access to Eucalyptus logs, a cheaper alternative to yew logs (dependent on GE prices). Lighting willows until level 58 will take 2,011 logs at 105 experience per log.

The third option would be lighting willows until level 60. This method is a bit more slow than the first option, but it saves you money (dependent on GE prices). If you choose to light willow logs until level 60, it will take 2,480 at 105 experience per log.

Your final option would be lighting willows until level 99. This method saves the most money out of the other 3 options but it does take the longest time. If you choose this method, it will take 124,011 at 105 experience per log to get level 99.

Levels 45-58(60/75/99)
Again, at this point you are presented with 4 different options. The first option would be lighting Maple logs from level 45 to level 58. This would take 1,208 logs at 135 experience per log to get level 58 firemaking.

The second option would be skipping over Eucalyptus logs and going directly to yew logs. If you choose this method, it will take 1,573 maples at 135 experience per log to get level 60.

The third option would be skipping over Eucalyptus logs and yew logs, and go directly for magic logs. Doing so will take 8,511 maples at 135 experience per log to reach magic logs.

The final option would be just skipping all the logs mentioned above and going for the 99. It will take 96,096 maples to reach level 99.

Levels 58-60
The amount of options you have here are dropped down to 1. The only option would be doing Eucalyptus logs until 60. Doing so will take 253 logs at 195 experience per log. I didn't include leveling to level 75 or 99 as it isn't the most effective.

Levels 60-75(99)
The amount of options you have jumps up to two, with the first option being lighting yews until magic logs. At 260 experience per log, it will take 3,603 logs to get level 75.

The second option you will have is lighting yew logs all the way until 99. Doing so will take 49,080 logs at 260 experience per log to achieve 99.

Levels 75-99
The last stretch of your journey, and the ability to light magic logs. At this point, you only have 1 pricey option, which is lighting Magic Logs all the way until 99. At a whopping 310 experience per log, it will only take 38,142 logs to get your 99.

Congratulations! You are now level 99 firemaking!

NOTE: All the above methods are based off of the assumption that you are firemaking by yourself on a bonfire. It also doesn't factor in the initial log it takes to light a regular fire. Additionally, it does not factor in any boosts (experience or level).

7) Quests
Below, are the quests in RuneScape that grant some experience in Firemaking. Some may not be worth it due to the fact that the experience you get in the quest is less than you gain per hour. So for example, if you get 120K firemaking experience per hour burning Magic Logs, and you only get 80K experience from a quest that takes an hour and a half, it may not be worth your time.

8) Boosts
Below, you will find a series of items that give you a temporary boost of up to +10 in firemaking. This may be useful if you want to start lighting some higher level logs, at an earlier stage.

Really good guide well done, I used maples to get to 99 firemaking simply because xp was still very fast and afk whilst being cheap too.
