If there is a lot of interest in this competition, it could potentially lead to a revamp of the Graphics Section, good luck!
FIRST PLACE: Entry 5: PRISM - 126/160
[x]
- Minato's critique - 35:
- Idea: 9/10
I like how it looks like it means business, it seems powerful.
Technical: 9/10
Very good, everything seems to blend together well, it has depth and colours are like you have used a paintbrush to paint us a watercolour. This is how I see it.
Typography: 8/10
I think the weakest part of the signature, I have to say I really dislike the blue triangle. It makes my eyes hurt when I look at it. I tried to imagine your signature without it and I understand why you added it. Personally I would try to go with a different shape, but I can't really think of any that would fit.
Execution: 9/10
It's a great piece that I really like, something I see that has been worked with thoroughly.
- Kelly's critique - 32:
- Idea: 8/10
Technical: 8/10
Typography: 8/10
Execution: 8/10
I quite like this. The Pokémon you chose to use is fierce looking, but I quite feel you did a remarkable job working with it. I think the blue triangle in the lower right-hand corner feels weird to me; maybe take your eraser (on low opacity) and try to lightly erase areas to make it look like water/waves of sorts. I can totally see why it’s there, but it just degrades the piece in my opinion. Overall, nice take on this.
- Josh's critique - 26:
- Idea: 7/10
Technical: 7/10
Typography: 5/10
Execution: 7/10
Looks decent I wish you didn't do the blue part with the text. It kinda kills the tag for me. You have nice depth and colors. Just wish you didn't do the typography part, seems like an easy way out to add text. Keep it up.
- Inhaps' critique - 33:
- Idea: 9/10
Simple idea but super effective.
Technical: 9/10
Excellent depth and lighting to it. The light spots do not translate well on the blue background in their current state, however.
Typography: 7/10
Blastoise offers a stylistic contrast and makes it stand out just right amount.
sotw has a sickly violet tinge to it that has no colour complementarity and and it is detrimental to the overall quality. White text may have been a better choice.
Execution: 8/10
Overall, it looks quite impressive, as if it's a character card from a fighting game.
SECOND PLACE and PUBLIC FAVOURITE: Entry 2: Tuff Tiga - 120/160
[x]
- Minato's critique - 36:
- Idea: 9/10
A pretty good entry, I don't know if you meant it I see speed in it. The blurry edges of Blaziken, like he's running towards the other edge at great speed.
Technical: 9/10
I think the signature has been well made, there's nothing that catches my eye as something I don't like.
Typography: 9/10
When looking at the signature I don't see it at first. I need to look to see it and I think that's good. The used font seems to suit it well.
Execution: 9/10
Overall a well-made signature, it sticks to the theme and is visually appealing.
- Kelly's critique - 30:
- Idea: 8/10
Technical: 7.5/10
Typography: 7/10
Execution: 7.5/10
Your idea here is very unique. The lower left feels really blank though, I’d suggest maybe adding some sort of effect (maybe like a sparkle effect or fractal) to stop that area feeling bland and possibly add some more depth to the piece. Your text is lovely, but I feel that it should be blended some more with the piece because it’s extremely distracting otherwise.
- Josh's critique - 25:
- Idea: 7/10
Technical: 6/10
Typography: 6/10
Execution: 6/10
The smudge is too much, it’s chunky, and it takes away from the focal. The colors also are hindering to the sig. I like how you tried to smudge with this render, but wasn't well executed. Keep up the work.
- Inhaps' critique - 29:
- Idea: 8/10
I like the feel of urgency it implies.
Technical: 8/10
I feel the left side of the background could have benefited from more muted or rather less varied colours. The render is blended in well but perhaps just too well.
Typography: 6/10
It is too saturated and monotonous as compared to the vibrant colours of everything else.
Blaziken should have been a more orangey colour with pink highlights as with Blaziken's leg.
Execution: 7/10
THIRD PLACE: Entry 3: Leakee - 119.5/160
[x]
- Minato's critique - 32:
- Idea: 7/10
Sorry, I don't really get an idea what you were trying to go for here. I understand the pokemon is an electric type, but dislike the background at the moment.
Technical: 8/10
Typography: 9/10
Seems nice and fitting to the signature, again I don't notice it until I look for it.
Execution: 8/10
The poor idea doesn't make it feel as appealing as it should. The signature is well made, but I just don't like the general idea.
- Kelly's critique - 29.5:
- Idea: 7/10
Technical: 7/10
Typography: 8/10
Execution: 7.5/10
The sparkly effects that you added to the top of the piece are nice in some areas, but others (specifically around your render) they make it look really distorted. Good job with depth with the lighting, but maybe add some more to it, as it feels unfinished. Great job with the text, just remove the blur that you’ve got on it and nudge it a couple bits to the right side. Really do like your text lots.
- Josh's critique - 25.5:
- Idea: 7/10
Technical: 6/10
Typography: 6.5/10
Execution: 6/10
I think surrounding him with lightning was a great idea, but that is all you did here. You need depth and things more interesting to look at. You're getting there keep up the work.
- Inhaps' critique - 32.5:
- Idea: 8/10
Not particularly groundbreaking but it all fits together.
Technical: 8/10
I will commend this piece on the appropriate use of a glow effect that is so often mishandled. It provides just the right amount of blending for the render. The splash-like effect over its neck area does not look quite right, grabs too much attention; something more like on the legs would be better. The background is fitting but perhaps a slightly more gradual blur on the lightning would work better.
Typography: 8.5/10
The placement feels a bit off, not enough to upset the whole piece but just enough to be noticeable. The grey underlay is a bit of an eye-sore; it's a neat effect but maybe something more along the lines of Raikou's mane colour would fit better.
Execution: 8/10
It is well-made but it has a kind of generic vibe.
Entry 1: Mr Rockeye - 104/160
[x]
- Minato's critique - 32.5:
- Idea: 8.5/10
It makes charizard look powerful and dangerous, really like the flame.
Technical: 8/10
My eyes are immediately drawn to charizard’s eyes and from there to the flame, I like it.
Typography: 8/10
The font seems to fit, but looking at it just feels quite plain.
Execution: 8/10
Overall a good entry, I don't see any big faults but It isn't the best I have seen either.
- Kelly's critique - 24.5:
- Idea: 7/10
Technical: 6/10
Typography: 5/10
Execution: 6.5/10
I like the idea you were going with here, but I feel you really need some more foreground depth and effects to blend the piece more and finish it up. The text is distracting somewhat and feels a bit plain. I like your border and the concept. Keep it up!
- Josh's critique - 23.5:
- Idea: 7/10
Technical: 6/10
Typography: 5/10
Execution: 5.5/10
You had a good idea to surround him in what looks like smoke. And keeping him the focal with his bright colors. Just was not well executed. Keep up the work you will get there.
- Inhaps' critique - 23.5:
- Idea: 7/10
It sets a nice mood with the smoke-laden environment being illuminated by flames.
Technical: 5.5/10
Light sources affecting the render must be taken into account, otherwise, for example, the left-most edge of the wing on the left makes no logical sense being so bright compared to the rest. The head appears to have some sort of a brightening overlay to make it stand out, and quite successfully, however the rest of the image could have benefited from a lower contrast to enhance that effect even further. Also, the rather realistic look of the background and flames does not match up with the cartoony look of Charizard.
Typography: 5/10
If the gradient were to emulate the smooth colour transition on Charizards neck, then perhaps it would look much better, otherwise its colours are too clashing and displeasing to the eye.
Execution: 6/10
Entry 4: piramatrix - 69/160
- Minato's critique - 19:
- Idea: 5/10
I don't really get the idea that you want to give forward to me when I look at the signature.
Technical: 5/10
The pokeball seems to be too pixelated comparing it to anything else on the picture. The different parts of the signature stand out on their own too much, you could make it so they would blend with each other, the edges of are too sharp.
Typography: 4/10
It's just there nothing else, I doesn't look beautiful at all. I see it as it has it just been put there to get it over with.
Execution: 5/10
I know you're very new so I want to praise you that you had to courage to take part. There's a lot that could improve and I hope you do find the time to advance your skills.
- Kelly's critique - 19:
- Idea: 5.5/10
Technical: 5/10
Typography: 4/10
Execution: 4.5/10
I think I know what you were aiming for idea wise. Seeing as this is your first graphic, I not only tip my hat off to you for having the courage to enter, but also do a fairly good job with it. Really from here what you have to work on more is depth and blending your piece together, the other things come in time as well. Your Pokéball is quite pixel-y looking and the stuff coming from it is really triply looking. Not bad though, keep it up! If you want some tutorials on basics of PS just shoot me a PM.
- Josh's critique - 16:
- Idea: 5/10
Technical: 4/10
Typography: 3/10
Execution: 4/10
You're just learning so I won’t be harsh. Look up tutorials and follow them the best you can. I can say you need to work on the flow of your sigs and the focal point.
- Inhaps' critique - 15:
- Idea: 6/10
It is a simple concept but either being used to summon or recall, the pokeball should be opened.
Technical: 3/10
It has literally no blending to speak of. Against this background the bulbasaur render could get away with no additional effects applied. But generally every element here needs some blending to make it all give the impression of being a part of a larger whole.
Typography: 3/10
A nudge to the left and the space between it and Bulbasaur and the edge would be filled up better. Pure red text is quite the pain to look at; anything more like the pokeball red would improve it immensely.
Execution: 3/10

So here is my entry:
The focus is on the head and flames are special designed.
I might put another signature in and replace it, but that depends on howmuch time I have this week.
To the other participators: I wish the best of luck!

You can use characters as well, whatever floats your boat.

I would suggest using a less contrasting colours in the gradient for the text.

It isn't animation, as that would be moving graphics.
They created their signatures in Photoshop, I would imagine.

If you want this to be used, then you have to edit the original post, not make a new one

Look into blending. The pokeball and text both are fairly disconnected from the rest.
